Beach Blanket Babylon!

So today, Mom & I went up to San Francisco to celebrate her birthday some more...Dave & I bought her tickets for Beach Blanket Babylon. It's been playing for thirty years and I can see why! She's wanted to go for a loooong time and we finally did it! Even on a Sunday afternoon in the RAIN, people were lined up outside the theatre for hours before it began. But since we had lovely box seats, we took our time getting there.

We got to the city & parking karma was kind to us giving us a lovely street spot just off of Columbus. Since we had time before the show, we headed to O'Reilly's Pub. After all the St. Patrick's Day Parade had just finished so we had to go! Lovely place, though a bit full with the parade and all. I had a cosmo & we had a lovely chat before the show. With 10 minutes to show time, we headed to Club Fugazi.

The show was SO amazingly funny, creative, and entertaining! The band was rocking, the costumes were shocking, and the hair was...WOW! Wonderful show where so many celebrities appeared...Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's sofa, Whoopi Goldberg with dreadlocks four feet long, and Barbra Streisand with fingernails 12 inches long! They even had Dick Cheney with a hunting rifle fresh from shooting his friend! Our show was PG & they said the night time shows are R rated...can't wait to go back!

We left the theatre and decided to get dessert before dinner! We walked to Mara's and got some of their amazing cream horns to take home...was hard to wait to eat them! Then we walked to the Stinking Rose. I hadn't been there since Kel was a baby so it was great to be back....and I forgot just how GOOD their food is! On the table, they had this to die for spread of olive oil, chopped raw garlic, and parsley...OH and it was GOOOOD! Since that wasn't enough garlic, we ordered roasted garlic warm from the oven & chicken with 40 cloves of garlic! Lovely food, company, and a great waiter-Robert. We'll be going back up there SOON!

We decided to have a drink for the road--tea for me at O'Reilly's. Mom was chatting up a rugby player who recognized us from earlier in the day and accused us of drinking there all day long! She explained that we had left and come back...he just stayed the whole time...when asked about this, he said he went to church that morning, so it was ok. LOL

What a wonderful day and so much fun to spend quality time with Mom.

One more day of auction work!!!

So, the auction is tomorrow night...thank goodness! I know I said I wouldn't put off getting these
albums done but...I am a procrastinator! So far I have the cookbook, baby's first year, and now the princess album DONE!!

Now tomorrow, I will be getting Thomas done. And then I can concentrate on getting ready for CKU Chicago!!!

Auction Auction Auction

So I finished one of my albums that I am making for Kelvin's pre-school auction. I've been going batty trying to get the cookbook done--over 50 pages scrapped! The baby's first year...and coming up with designs for two mini books. Sometimes I wonder why I go crazy trying to get so much done for something like this...then we're playing or hanging out and I look at that face...not much I wouldn't do for him...

Not a good blogger

So...I've decided that I am not a very good blogger. I don't bother up-loading pix, I don't bother writing every day, and I don't let anyone know about my blog. Ahhh but I have a secret evil plan! Since I am not good at keeping secrets, I'll tell you all about it!

I will put a short note and a title on for each day...then when I have nothing to do and really important stuff to say, I'll go back and fill in all the empty days. It'll look like I am organized, focused, and important. Muhahahaha

Friends and Family

So I am going to CKU in Chicago in THREE weeks! It seemed sooo long ago that I registered and now it's here! Of course I still have loads to do...recipe swap pages, rainbow embellishment swaps, secret sister swap, state goodie swap, but I am so excited to be going again!

I am taking the Junkitz album track with Teresa Collins & couldn't be happier with the album so far! For homework, I've asked some friends to write lists of traits they admire in me and I am doing the same for them...and these lists from them are WOW! Everyone should do this because it's so moving and fun to see the things that these wonderful people have come up with...might even share them here sometime!


And this will be the first trip ever without Kel...that is not so exciting...I know he'll be fine at home without me but it is going to be SO weird being there without him! Guess I better save some room in my scrapbooking bags for some surprises for him!

Scrapbook Expo

Last week, I went to the SB Expo in Santa Clara with my great scrapping buddy Karen. I've been to enough expos now to know what to expect...2nd rate classes, icky food being sold, and not enough room in the shopping hall. WOW What a different experience this was!

They FINALLY moved the expo from the SJ fairgrounds and put it in Santa Clara at their beautiful convention center, just down the street from Dave's work. The classes had real walls and carpeting even! The food offerings were fabulous...nice salads, yummy looking lasagna and no huge lines for it! The shopping hall was great too...you wern't tripping over everyone to get around! I think they could start allowing rolling bags here because there was actually room for them for once! One of the coolest things that I found were these letters at Rusty Pickle. Of course I haven't used them yet, but just looking at them gives me all sorts of ideas!

Some classes were as usual not so good...took a Basic Grey class that was too basic and not worth the price at all. Had some fun classes with Lance from Rusty Pickle and as always came out with great projects-including a mini book in a jar. Then I had a GREAT class! Find Out What's In...It was taught by the expo staff and I wasn't expecting much but the instructor was fabulous! Beyond the layouts that we made in class, she gave design ideas, interesting techniques and was so into what she does! She teaches for the expo throughout California and I will definitely take more classes with her! The other really good class was taught by Katherine Brooks with Deluxe Designs. The project was just ok to me, but beyond what we made in class, she showed a bunch of slides with other project ideas, told funny stories & was just great fun! She also talked about the importance of everyone scrapping about themselves...she even gave us a challenge, make a layout about ourselves & e-mail it to her...those that did would get some goodies from her. Of course I sent a layout to her & she sent me a huge package of goodies...die cuts, shapes, tags, and the one book of hers that I didn't have yet!

What a fun day!

Jury Duty

So I got a summons for jury duty...now when I was in school & working I LOVED getting these notices! It was so fun to get to take off work & exciting to see what was going on in the courts. But since having Kelvin, I DETEST them! The courts do not see childcare issues as a reasonable excuse to jury duty. This does not make sense to me except to know that men likely wrote the laws...and as in so many areas of our society, full time parents are not respected. That with the fact that I get called in so MUCH!

If this were my first summons in awhile, it would have been ok...but since Kel was born (3 1/2 years ago), I have received THREE notices! I don't know why they keep asking me to go, but I am a bit tired of it! David has been so busy at work that he can't take time off...so it was tricky figuring out what to do...

We found that there is a childcare center at the court for the first day of jury duty so I took Kelvin with me and went downtown. He had a blast putting our bags through the x-ray machines in the courthouse. The security guard didn't want to let me take my knitting needles into the courthouse with me... Yes, those needles are such deadly weapons! But another guard laughed at him and I was able to get them in. We then went to find the childcare room.

Luckily there were no other children in the room so Kelvin had the place to himself. And he did such a great job there! He played nicely with the toys, went to the bathroom when he had to...and was just amazingly good at waiting for me!

Meanwhile, my name got picked to go up to courtroom...luckily I was not one of the first 18 chosen to sit in the jury box, though. As the lawyers only rejected three people, I did not have to stay any longer! I picked up my son and got out of there! The case was sad...a man's children were claiming that he is insane and trying to get control over his finances. It is a tragic situation for all of them.

And so it begins...

I've finally done it...started a blog. Now what?
